The ULAB Centre for Enterprise and Society (CES) recently held an insightful talk titled “Networking for Beginners” featuring Zarin Zeba Khan, a development professional with more than 14 years of experience in the field.
The session offered actionable steps to build meaningful connections and advance networking skills with confidence.
The podcast was hosted by Nujhat Jahan Khan, deputy manager, CES ULAB.
Zarin highlighted the importance of having a clear plan and building relevant networks to support personal and professional growth.
She encouraged students to attend seminars, workshops, and participate in club activities, as these not only improve leadership skills but also provide valuable networking opportunities.
For introverted students, Zarin advised focusing on active listening and concise speaking. "Introverts have a natural edge — they’re fantastic listeners," she shares. "This trait can be incredibly powerful in building authentic relationships and learning from others."
Drawing from her own experiences, Zarin shares her journey, explaining how she approached networking with an intention to learn rather than to immediately seek favours.
"In the beginning, it’s all about expanding your knowledge and broadening your perspective. I interacted with people with the aim of learning something from each of them," she said.
