JU students protest offensive remarks on Prophet Muhammad

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organized a protest rally on Sunday in response to offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made by members of the Indian ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The rally was held at the Central Shaheed Minar in the afternoon.

During the protest, students condemned the remarks.

They called for national condemnation from the interim government and vowed to resist any future insults both inside and outside Bangladesh.

They also mentioned that this government is the government of the people and they want this government to call the Indian high commissioner and present a censure motion.

Mashiur Saad, a student of the Bangla department, said: "We don't criticise any religion, but why do they? They do not get any punishment because of which they get so much courage. Aisha (RA) was married to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They question his character. I will tell them to read the life of the prophet. We strongly condemn this.”

Bani Amin, a student of the university, said: "We will not accept criticism of the prophet. We strongly condemn this and will take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.”

After that, the protesters took out a rally from the Shaheed Minar and marched back to the main gate.

BJP Member of the Maharashtra Assembly Nitesh Rane stoked controversy this month with provocative speeches against the Muslim community.

At an event on September 1, he threatened Muslims of "entering your masjid and hunting you down" if Hindu seer Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj, who has been charged with making alleged derogatory remarks about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, was harmed.
