Professor Dr Md Haider Ali from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dhaka University, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Comilla University.
The announcement was made through a notification signed by Md Shahinur Islam, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Education, following the president's order.
Professor Haider Ali, who boasts a distinguished academic career, earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Applied Physics and Electronics from Dhaka University.
He also obtained his PhD in Electronics and Information Engineering from Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan.
In addition, Professor Mohammad Solaiman from the Marketing Department has been appointed as the treasurer of Comilla University.
Both will serve in their respective roles for the next four years from the date of their appointment.
This development comes in the wake of a wave of resignations among high-ranking officials across the country following the students' movement on August 5, which led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina.
The previous vice-chancellor of Comilla University, Dr AFM Abdul Main, resigned on August 19, citing personal reasons.
