Yeahia Akhter new VC of Chittagong University

Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, a distinguished former professor from the Department of Political Science at Chittagong University (CU), has been named the new vice-chancellor of CU.

The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division on Wednesday.

The official statement, signed by Shahinur Islam, deputy secretary of the Public General University Branch, confirmed that the president and chancellor approved Dr Akhter's appointment under Section 12(2) of the Chittagong University Act, 1973.

The notice clarified that his appointment would take effect once he assumes office, granting him all the entitlements associated with the role.

Dr Akhter, who started his academic career at CU in 1982, will now serve as the university’s Chief Executive Officer.

The president and chancellor hold the authority to revoke his appointment if deemed necessary.

Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter boasts an impressive academic background, with bachelor's and master's degrees in political science from Rajshahi University.

He later pursued a second master’s degree from the University of Waterloo in Canada and completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, Australia.

This marks a new chapter for Chittagong University, as Dr Akhter assumes leadership with his extensive experience and academic expertise.
