Implementing a blended learning model has become imperative after the Covid-19 pandemic. Recognizing Bangladesh as one of the countries vulnerable to climate change, the government and policymakers anticipate the necessity of such a model to ensure ongoing education for individuals of all ages, social statuses, genders, and geographical locations. The Blended Learning Model introduced by the Government of Bangladesh comprises five key components: 1. Teaching-Learning Practices, 2. Contents and Resources, 3. Formative Assessment, 4. Teachers’ Capacity Development, and 5. Inclusive Infrastructure.
In alignment with the government's Blended Learning Model and to conduct groundbreaking analyses on the accessibility and demand for tech-based after-school education, collaborating with leading ed-tech Shikho, SAJIDA Foundation has successfully launched SAJIDA Learning Centre which blends the best of the online and offline worlds. At these learning centers, students can learn from online instructors from studios in Dhaka while seated in cutting-edge facilities from remote locations. In addition, there are on-site teachers who support online instructors and give each student their undivided attention, guaranteeing that their questions and doubts are answered right away.
In adherence to the fifth component of the Blended Learning Model, the SAJIDA Learning Centre has been set up in Comilla and Narsingdi with state-of-the-art facilities. These centers are equipped with high-speed internet to facilitate the live broadcasting of classes and ensure seamless access to the educational app for students. They can further develop their abilities and achieve academic success by using the contents of this app, which gives them access to an amazing library of animated films, live multiple-choice question tests, and performance analysis tools.
Currently, as part of the pilot phase, students in grade 10 are benefiting from this high-quality educational access. To support their learning, students are provided with a tablet with internet connectivity for accessing the Learning Management System (LMS). Through this initiative, over 500 students in these centers have received valuable support to enhance their performance in the SSC Board examination.
Parents also acknowledge the benefits of digital content in aiding their children’s learning, although they remain vigilant about ensuring responsible device usage beyond educational applications.
A pivotal goal is the establishment of a Phygital space, aimed at fostering connections between educators and learners. The SAJIDA Learning Centre exemplifies this concept, creating a sustainable learning environment by incorporating feedback and mentorship from highly qualified teachers based in the capital city.
Continuous learning of the learners holds great significance, leading the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) to revise its education policy. The policy amendments align with pedagogical approaches aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SAJIDA Foundation aspires to set up over 100 Learning Centres nationwide in Bangladesh to facilitate learning and quality education through the Blended Learning Model. The innovative concept involves centrally creating digital learning content that can be accessed throughout the country, overcoming any challenges or adverse situations faced by Bangladesh.
On the International Day of Education let’s arm the next generation with the information and resources they need to succeed. By democratizing access to high-quality education and digitizing the classroom experience, we can contribute to the development of Smart Citizens to advance the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision for a Smart Bangladesh.
