A group of Dhaka University (DU) students has protested, demanding the cancellation of the controversial “Gha’” unit entrance exam test which was marred by widespread allegations of question paper leaks that was also acknowledged by the university.
On Sunday, they also demanded the resignation of DU Social Science Faculty Dean and coordinator of the test, Sadeka Halim, for her failure to ensure enough security measures to thwart question leakages .
Students from different departments came together at the rally under the banner of “Dhaka University Against Question Leak,” held in front of Raju Memorial sculpture.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University authorities on Sunday also assured they will take stern action if any anomalies are found in the “Gha” unit entrance exam result and admission process, said a press release from the university.
Expressing solidarity with the protesting students, Du Law Department Professor Asif Nazrul questioned that: “While the university authority already acknowledged that questions of the test were leaked, then what could be the reason behind the university authority showing apathy to administer the test again?”
Demanding the re-admission, he also urged the university authority to remove Sadeka Halim from the post and hand over the job to someone who is eligible to hold the responsibility and take stern action to wipe out the cycle of fraudsters who are involved in the matter.
Chhatra Union Central President Jilani Shuvo, Chhatra Federation Central President Golam Mostofa, and Chhatra Front’s Central General Secretary Nasiruddin Prince, also spoke at the rally.
Earlier on October 16, the DU authorities published the results for the “Gha” unit entrance exam results amid huge criticism, acknowledging the question paper was leaked prior to the exam.
Law enforcement has found evidence that the hand-written question paper for the “Gha” unit admission test was leaked 43 minutes prior to the exam, and was circulated by two admission information centres in Bogra.
Six people, including an admission seeker and his father, were arrested in connection with the incident.
The “Gha” unit admission test took place on October 12 and saw a surprising pass rate of around 26%, which is the highest pass rate in this unit in the last five years.
