ULAB holds photo exhibition on violence against women

Plan Bangladesh is celebrating 16 days of activism of violence against women from November 25 to December 10, 2016 and the exhibition was a part of it. Maherin Ahmed, head of communication and advocacy, Plan International Bangladesh, Jude William R Jenilo, dean of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ), ULAB, and Md Moniruzzaman, director of Fine Arts, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, jointly inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition showcased photo stories on violence against women and girls. Later, the five best photographers were awarded with a crest and received Lenovo tablet PCs. The awardees are Santua Tripura, Mahmudul Hasan Uday, Ekrim Hossin, Iffat Jahan and Md Mashruzzaman. Jude William R. Jenilo of ULAB said: “We believe in women’s empowerment and safe childhoods. This is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination, and it is the educated society’s responsibility to fight against these issues” “Plan International Bangladesh is working on making urban communities safer for women and girls. A project is currently being implemented at Shyampur union of Dhaka where young women and girls are working towards making their communities safer,” Maherin said. Women and girls make up the most vulnerable group in society. We need to work together to find out the root causes of the challenges the victims face, the speakers added. Plan International has been building powerful partnerships for children for over 78 years, and is currently active in more than 72 countries.
