The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has arrested two more people in connection with the death of headmistress Ronjina Parveen, 55, who fell from a rickshaw after being pulled by snatchers in front of the South Plaza of the National Parliament House.
Police also recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the snatching and Ronjina’s handbag.
Md Shafiqul Islam, additional police commissioner of the DB, confirmed the arrests and recoveries on Wednesday.
He said Ronjina’s handbag, along with a bus ticket found inside it, had been recovered. He said further details would be disclosed at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, on August 30, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Md Mosharraf Hossain Poni alias Poni Gazi and his associate Cedric in connection with the case.
At the time, RAB said it had recovered a Yamaha R15 motorcycle from them and claimed that it was the motorcycle used in the snatching.
Following the RAB briefing, however, Mosharraf told journalists that he was not involved in the incident. He also claimed that his motorcycle did not resemble the one used in the snatching.
CCTV footage recorded during the incident showed a blue motorcycle, while the motorcycle recovered by RAB was black and white, raising questions over whether it was the same vehicle.
The latest recovery is expected to clarify the discrepancy.
