National Martyrs’ Memorial readied for new PM, cabinet tribute

Extensive cleaning, maintenance, and beautification are underway at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar ahead of a visit by the newly elected prime minister and members of the new cabinet to pay tribute to Liberation War martyrs.

Authorities said preparations have been ongoing since Sunday, with additional security measures in place to ensure the site is ready for the high-level homage.

Public entry to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar has been temporarily suspended as authorities carry out extensive cleaning, maintenance, and beautification ahead of a high-level visit by the newly elected prime minister and members of the new cabinet.

Officials said the restriction, in place since Sunday, was taken for both security and beautification purposes.

“The prime minister and the cabinet will come to pay tribute to the brave sons of the nation. For this reason, public entry to the memorial premises has been restricted,” said Anwar Hossain Khan Anu, deputy assistant engineer of the Public Works Department at the memorial.

He added that the site will reopen to visitors after the homage ceremony.

In the meantime, workers are busy sprucing up the grounds, reinforcing security, and ensuring the memorial is prepared for the historic occasion.

The visit comes as the BNP secured a majority in the 13th national election and is set to form the new government, with the tribute marking one of the first official acts of the incoming leadership.
