Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has conducted a special cleanliness and mosquito-control campaign in Dhanmondi, placing particular emphasis on maintaining cleanliness in residential areas to curb dengue.
The special operation began at 6am on Friday, with more than 900 cleaners and mosquito-control workers from DSCC’s waste management and health departments, along with local residents, taking part. The program was attended by DSCC Administrator Md Mahmudul Hasan as the chief guest.
As part of the campaign, waste was removed from lakes, drains, sewers, and footpaths, and mosquito-control chemicals were applied.
In addition, awareness-raising activities were conducted, including a public rally and leaflet distribution with the participation of local organizations such as the Dhanmondi Society and the Dhanmondi Residential Area Taxpayers’ Association.
During a briefing with journalists, the DSCC Administrator said that the involvement of city residents in corporation activities enables the authorities to understand the expectations, needs, and suggestions of each area, allowing for effective planning and implementation.
Expressing the hope of building a clean, livable, and mosquito- and pollution-free city, he urged residents to cooperate by disposing of household, shop, and commercial waste only in designated places rather than indiscriminately.
DSCC’s Chief Executive Officer Md Zahurul Islam, department heads, and leaders of local social organizations were also present at the event.
