RMG workers clear Kuril road after 5hrs blockade over dues

Dhaka’s Kuril area saw severe traffic disruption on Wednesday after workers of thge Eurozone garment faxctory blocked roads demanding unpaid salaries and allowances.

The protest, which began around 12 pm, lasted five hours before the workers cleared the road, allowing traffic to resume.

Sohel Rana, assistant Commissioner of Police of Badda Zone, said the workers blocked both incoming and outgoing lanes.

The demonstration caused congestion from Badda-Kuril Road to Airport Road, affecting commuters and the nearby flyover.

The Gulshan Traffic Division shared updates and suggested alternative routes to commuters on their verified Facebook page.

Gulshan Traffic Division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ziaur Rahman said a delegation of workers held a meeting at the ministry in the afternoon. At the meeting, owners assured—through government mediation—that all arrears would be cleared by September 10.

“After receiving the assurance, workers left the road around 3:45pm. Traffic movement has now returned to normal,” Ziaur Rahman said.

Workers said they had been waiting for a long time to receive their arrears. But as the authorities failed to clear the payments on time, they were forced to block the road.

They warned that if the dues are not cleared within the promised time, they will again launch tougher protests.
