Milestone plane crash: 26 still under treatment at burn institute

In the aftermath of the Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Diabari, Uttara, 26 burn victims remain under treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. 

Among them, 23 are children, with doctors reporting that one child’s condition is critical.

On Saturday (9 August) afternoon, Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the burn institute, said several admitted patients have burns affecting their windpipes and large parts of their bodies. The critically ill child has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He added that although many patients’ conditions were stable, several others remained critical and were under constant observation.

According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services, till date, 34 people have died in the incident, including 28 child students. Many succumbed at the crash site, while others passed away during hospital treatment.

On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet lost control and crashed into a two-storey building of Milestone School and College in Diabari, Uttara. Immediately after the plane struck the building, fire broke out. Fire service personnel recovered 20 bodies from the scene, while 14 more died later in hospital.
