Dismissed members of the erstwhile Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) have announced that they will end their protest and return home only after their demands are met, calling upon other former BDR members to join their demonstration.
The announcement came on Monday evening in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, where the protesters had taken position.
Earlier in the day, the dismissed BDR personnel held a procession from the Central Shaheed Minar and gathered at the Shahbagh intersection.
Despite breaking through police barricades to block the road, they later shifted their demonstration to in front of the museum, where they remained at the time of reporting.
Several protesters said that although a commission has been formed to address their concerns, a long time has passed with no resolution.
They added that this has forced them to return to the streets.
This time, they said, they will not leave without securing their demands.
A protester named Aminul Islam said: “During the fascist regime of Hasina, we could not even speak up. We could not go to anyone with our demands. And what did we get by removing Sheikh Hasina? We are still being beaten by the police in the streets. We have to spend nights on the road to get our demands fulfilled. So, what is the difference between Hasina and the current administration? We have called on other BDR members to join the movement.”
