Armed men in Dhanmondi spark panic, mosque miking warns of robbery

Panic gripped Dhanmondi’s Shankar area after a group of armed men roamed the streets on Sunday night.

Alarmed residents used mosque loudspeakers to warn that robbers had entered the neighborhood.

Around 8:30pm on Sunday, 10 to 12 men, armed with locally-made weapons, gathered in front of Ali Hossain Boys' High School.

Witnesses said the group moved through the area, intimidating shop owners and passersby. In fear, businesses shut down quickly, and residents rushed to safety. The men remained for five to ten minutes before leaving.

Videos circulating on social media showed residents appealing for police intervention. Fortunately, no attacks or injuries were reported.

Witnesses said the group later headed toward Rayerbazar.

Hazaribagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Islam said the group had arrived from Mohammadpur, causing panic among locals.

He said they left before police could reach the scene.

The identities of the armed men remain unknown.
