A severely injured member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has died while undergoing treatment after being attacked at the Gazipur residence of former liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), confirmed that Kashem Khan, 20, passed away at the hospital’s ICU around 3pm on Wednesday.
Kashem’s brother-in-law, Sajib Ahmed Shahin, said: “On Friday evening, some locals called him out. Later that night, we learned that he was attacked at the former minister’s residence. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital the same night.”
Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of DMCH, said: “Kashem’s injuries were extremely severe. He underwent surgery the day he was brought to the hospital. Since then, he had been in the ICU, where he eventually passed away.”
Last Friday night, students attempted to prevent an attack and looting at the residence of fugitive Awami League leader AKM Mozammel Haque in the Dhirashram area of Gazipur City Corporation.
In response, they were attacked, leaving at least 18 people injured.
Protesting the incident, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a demonstration at Rajbari Field in Gazipur Sadar Upazila the following afternoon.
