Temperature drops as dense fog engulfs Dhaka

The sky over the capital has remained covered with dense fog, signalling a further drop in temperature since Wednesday morning.

The biting cold winds have left the residents of Dhaka struggling with extreme chill. Additionally, mild cold waves are expected in some areas outside the capital.

Meteorologist Shahnaaz Sultana explained that the fog is preventing the sun’s warmth from reaching the ground, and it could persist in many areas until noon, potentially lowering the temperature even further.

Sultana also added that the cold winds are already affecting Dhaka, and in some other regions, the drop in temperature could lead to mild cold waves.

According to the Meteorological Department, the high-pressure system over the subcontinent extends to West Bengal and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the usual low-pressure system for the season is situated in the southern Bay of Bengal, with its extension reaching the northern Bay of Bengal.

In the weather forecast for the next 24 hours, it is predicted that the weather across the country will remain mostly dry with partially cloudy skies. Dense fog is expected to develop across the country from midnight to morning and may continue in some areas until noon. The fog may disrupt air travel, river transport, and road traffic temporarily.

Temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3°C during the night and by 2-4°C during the day. The cold sensation is likely to increase due to the dense fog.
