University students block Banani road in Dhaka

Students of Prime Asia University have once again blocked the Banani-Kakoli road in Dhaka, demanding the establishment of a permanent campus. The protest has led to severe traffic congestion in the area.

On Sunday afternoon, traffic on the road was halted after the blockade.

The students of Prime Asia University said that they have been promised a permanent campus for a long time, but it has not been provided yet. One of their departments was supposed to shift there by December, but the Board of Trustees is attempting to sell the land for the permanent campus at 300ft.

They further said that every month, the Board of Trustees takes Tk65,000 as vehicle expenses, which is their money. They also added that for a long time, their seniors have fought for the permanent campus, but they still haven’t been able to move there. Additionally, some members of the Board of Trustees are said to have embezzled university funds. The students demand the recovery of this money.

Regarding this, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, Russell Sarwar, said: “The students had blocked the road in Banani yesterday as part of their protest. Today, they are again protesting for the permanent campus. They are also alleging that several members of the university’s Board of Trustees have embezzled money and they want this money to be recovered.”
