A new case has been filed against the three individuals arrested in connection with the death of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Mohtassim Masud, who was killed after a private car collided with a police checkpost in Purbachal.
Following a drug test that detected alcohol and marijuana in the bodies of two of the accused, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mehedi Hasan of Rupganj police station filed the case on Saturday night.
Senior Assistant Police Superintendent of Narayanganj, Mehedi Islam, confirmed the matter.
He said that Mubin Al Mamun and Mirazul have been charged with drug consumption and possession, while Asif Chowdhury has been charged under the Narcotics Control Act for assisting in drug consumption.
The three were sent to court on Friday for a five-day remand, with a hearing scheduled for Sunday.
This comes following students of Buet accused the police of reluctance to file a case following the death of Mohtassim Masud.
They have also criticized misleading comments by the defendant's lawyer and media reports portraying the incident as an "accident."
At around 3am on Friday, Buet student Mohtassim was killed when a private car hit his motorcycle at a police checkpoint in the Purbachal area of Rupganj, Narayanganj. Two other Buet students, Mehedi Hasan Khan, 22, and Amit Saha, 22, were severely injured in the incident.
The accident occurred near the Nila Market area on the Kuril-Kanchan road in Purbachal.
Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a case at Rupganj police station.
