In a joint operation conducted by the police and the army, 11 drug dealers, including Irfan, son of Altaf of 'Boba Biryani,' were arrested early Friday from the Geneva Camp in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.
The operation was confirmed by Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Iftekhar Hasan.
He said: "A joint raid was carried out early Friday to eliminate drug trading and criminal activities in the Geneva Camp area, resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals. Drugs and locally-made weapons were seized during the operation. Several of the arrestees, including Irfan, have criminal cases against them."
According to police and camp sources, ongoing joint operations by the army in the Geneva Camp over the past two months have brought some relief to the area.
Earlier, one of the camp’s notorious drug dealers and top criminals, Bunia Sohel, was arrested. So far, law enforcement agencies have arrested over 100 drug dealers and criminals from the camp in various operations.
Residents of the Geneva Camp revealed that Altaf, the owner of 'Boba Biryani,' and his son Irfan were key players in the camp's drug trade.
Altaf and his family allegedly used their biryani business as a cover for drug dealing. Media reports have previously shown video evidence of Altaf and his sons armed during recent clashes.
Irfan, also known as Habla Irfan, was reportedly managing the drug trade on behalf of Javed, alias Nata Javed, who was the manager of former yaba kingpin Ishtiaq. Irfan also ran several groups involved in drug sales.
