A shooting erupted at the Geneva Camp, locally known as Bihari camp, in Mohammadpur on Saturday evening, injuring three people, including a child.
The injured have been taken to Suhrawardy Hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Iftekhar Hasan said: “Police were immediately dispatched to the scene upon reports of gunfire. Additionally, a RAB team has been deployed. Details on the exact number of injured individuals are still being confirmed.”
According to local residents, multiple groups involved in drug trafficking and extortion operate within the camp, leading to frequent clashes over control of drug activities.
This particular incident is part of a recurring pattern, with similar fatal events reported on September 4 and August 6, where two individuals were killed.
Following the fall of the Awami League government during the student-led uprising on August 5, allegations emerged that a number of weapons and ammunition were looted from Mohammadpur and Adabor police stations.
Reports indicate that these weapons are now being used by certain groups to dominate the drug trade and extortion activities within the camp.
