Following a protest at the Secretariat by students demanding re-evaluation of their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam results, 26 detained students have been shown arrested, while 28 others have been released under the supervision of their guardians.
Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur confirmed the arrests on Thursday, adding that police had filed a case and the arrested individuals had been subsequently produced before a court for legal proceedings.
The protest, organized by HSC examinees dissatisfied with their exam results – either due to failing or receiving unexpectedly poor marks – took place at around 3pm on Wednesday in front of Building 6, where the Ministry of Education is located.
The protest occurred directly at the Secretariat’s main gate, one of the country's most sensitive government areas.
In response to the protest, a significant number of police officers and military personnel were deployed.
When the protest escalated, security forces moved to disperse the students.
Law enforcement gave chase, eventually detaining over 50 students during the crackdown.
