Singer Moni Kishore’s body found in Rampura home

The body of Moni Kishore, a popular singer from the 1990s, was recovered from his Rampura residence in Dhaka on Saturday night.

Police suspect that he died some three to five days ago.

The cause of death of this once-famous singer has not yet been confirmed.

However, Rampura police have said Moni lived alone in the apartment. The landlord became suspicious when he did not see Moni leave his home for several days and reported it to the police. Upon arrival, the police discovered his body. There were no signs of injury on his body.

Regarding the incident, Ataur Rahman Akon, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura police station, said: “It is suspected that he died some four days ago. We have heard that he had been suffering from various illnesses. After recovering the body, we will send it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy following a preliminary examination.”

Moni Kishore had performed in over 500 songs. Although he was registered as a singer on radio and television, he sang sparingly.

He also rarely sang in films, focusing primarily on audio albums. Some of his notable hits include "Ki Chile Amar," "Shei Duti Chokh Kothay Tomar," "Tumi Shudhu Amar Jonyo," "Mukhe Bolo Bhalobashi," and others.

Notably, Moni Kishore was his stage name, with his real name being Moni Mandal. He was an avid fan of Kishore Kumar, which inspired him to add "Kishore" to his name.
