JnU student apologizes for assaulting bus helper

Tawsif Shakil, a student from the chemistry department of Jagannath University, on Tuesday night apologized for assaulting a bus driver's assistant helper while falsely claiming to be a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the university.

The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral on social media, leading to significant backlash against Shakil.

The video, which lasts for one minute and seven seconds, shows a young man, later identified as Shakil, aggressively beating a bus helper while proclaiming his status as a student movement coordinator from JnU.

Throughout the video, Shakil maintains a confrontational demeanour.

In a subsequent video, Shakil expressed his remorse, saying: "I acted out of anger and did everything in a fit of rage. I am deeply distressed and have not been able to sleep or eat since last night."

“I am receiving threats from various sources. I have no political affiliations. I used a false identity out of fear and am asking for your forgiveness," he added.

In response, the bus helper acknowledged Shakil's apology, saying: "He made a mistake, but he now realizes his error. We have forgiven him, as we want him to focus on his education and achieve something significant in the future."
