Jagannath University (JnU) authorities have rescinded their decision to close the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall following strong protests from students.
The Hall Provost, Professor Dr Dipika Rani, confirmed the reversal of the decision on Wednesday.
Professor Dr Dipika Rani announced: “Students who wish to remain in the hall can continue to stay, and those who prefer to leave are free to do so. Essential services, including gas, water, and electricity, will remain fully operational.”
Earlier, an emergency syndicate meeting at the university had ordered students to vacate the dormitory and suspended academic activities.
This decision was met with significant opposition from the student body, who rallied against it.
During the protest, students chanted slogans such as, “We do not accept the administration’s decision, we will not accept it,” “We will not accept it, the hall is not anyone’s property,” and “The hall is our home, we will not leave.”
The demonstrators argued that the administration’s decision was an attempt to coerce them into vacating the dormitory against their will.
