A case has been filed over the killing of Constable Monirul near the Palestinian embassy in the capital's Baridhara on Saturday night.
The victim’s elder brother Mahabubul Haque filed the case against Constable Kawsar with Gulshan police station on Sunday, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Rifat Rahman Shamim said Constable Kawsar has been shown arrested in the case.
He will be sent to a court seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation.
The CCTV footage of the area showed both constables in a heated argument around 11pm. At one point Monirul shows Kawsar a duty notebook and almost instantly, Kawsar fires a round at Monirul.
When Monirul fell to the ground, Kawsar silently moved from the scene. He reportedly fired 38 rounds of bullets.
Two pedestrians were also wounded in the incident.
It took special police forces, including SWAT and the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), about half an hour to disarm and apprehend Kawsar.
