One killed, 22 injured as picnic bus collides with underpass roof in Dhaka

A 12-year boy was killed and 22 people were injured as a double-decker BRTC picnic bus collided with an underpass's roof at Kanchan-Kuril Biswa Road (Sheikh Hasina Sarani) in Rupganj of Narayanganj on Saturday.

The deceased boy was identified as Akhil. His mother was injured in the accident. 

Four injured people are in critical condition, according to hospital sources.

According to police and witnesses, a rented BRTC double-deck bus carrying officials, workers and family members of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) from Narayanganj was going to attend a picnic at Sea Shell Park in Purbachal.

One of the buses collided with the roof of an underpass near the Purbachal Fire Service office on Kanchan-Kuril Biswa Road, injuring dozens of people.

Later, firefighters rescued the people and admitted them to hospitals.

Twenty-two of the injured were taken to Kurmitola General Hospital in the city. After their physical condition deteriorated, 10 of them were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Akhil and her injured mother were transferred to Pongu Hospital where Akhil died while undergoing treatment.

Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dipankar Chandra Saha confirmed the matter.
