Dhaka College students hold up buses over fare

Dhaka College students held up two buses of VIP and Bikash Paribahan on Monday for not accepting half fares.

They intercepted these buses and kept them on the lane next to the college at around 10:30am.

New Market police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said there was an issue between bus drivers and their assistants and some students of Dhaka College over fares.

“We are calling both sides to the police station to resolve the situation immediately after hearing their perspectives,” he said.

Students complained that even though the buses ply the road in front of the college, they often do not accept half fares and bus staff sometimes even misbehave with students.

They said if they want to pay half fares, they are harassed and assaulted in front of other passengers.

Dhaka College Teachers Council Treasurer Obaidul Karim said: "Police and representatives of the two bus services are on the spot. Will speak with everyone to settle the matter.”
