The police arrested three people while they were chanting slogans in front of the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, as activists held protest marches across Dhaka on Wednesday, the first day of the fifth recent blockade called by the party.
One of the arrestees is Jatiyatabadi Janata Dal’s Raihanul Huq Raju. The identities of the rest could not be confirmed yet.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General led a protest march in Shahbagh, with many senior leaders, such as Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, behind bars.
Meanwhile, traffic was almost normal despite the blockade with congestion in many areas, including Gulistan, Karwan Bazar and Farmgate. However, no long-distance buses left the Gabtoli and Mohakhali terminals.
