1,813 arrested in Dhaka since BNP’s Oct 28 grand rally

A total of 1,813 leaders and activists of various opposition parties have been arrested since BNP's grand rally in the capital’s Naya Paltan on October 28.

The arrests were made in connection with 131 cases filed over violence, sabotage, beating and killing of policemen, vandalism, and arson with different police stations in Dhaka, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Faruk Hossain said on Saturday.

He said 696 people were arrested on October 28, 256 on October 29, 158 on October 30, 141 on October 31, 96 on November 1, 60 on November 2, 58 on November 3, 37 on November 4, 52 on November 5, 82 on November 6, 60 on November 7, 41 on November 8, 37 on November 9, and 39 on November 10.

On October 29, BNP and other like-minded opposition parties called for a hartal across the country.

Later, blockades were observed from October 31 to November 2, on November 5-6, and on November 8-9.
