Second day of BNP-Jamaat blockade sees increase in traffic movement

On the second day of the three-day BNP-Jamaat blockade, there was a noticeable increase in public transport movement on the streets of Dhaka.

During a visit to various roads and bus terminals in the capital between 8am-9am on Wednesday, it was observed that vehicles, including private cars, lagunas, goods vehicles, and public transport, were plying the roads.

Traffic movement was prominent particularly in areas including Gabtoli, Kalyanpur, Shyamoli, in front of Shishu Mela, Mirpur Road, Science Lab, Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, GPO, and Gulistan.

Public transport was moving at normal pace, with passengers traveling by bus as usual.

However, the scenario was different at long-distance bus terminals of Gabtoli, Kalyanpur, Dhanmondi, and Kalabagan, where buses were not leaving the stoppage due to the lack of passengers. Most ticket counters were closed, and the terminals remained empty of passengers.

Samdani Khandakar, the office secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, attributed the reduction in long-distance bus services to the decrease in passengers resulting from the ongoing blockade.
