The Titas gas line had burst during the construction of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway disrupting gas supply in adjoining areas.
The technical team of Titas started repairing the pipeline from Sunday night after receiving the news and is still continuing on Monday morning.
Sources said that around 10pm on Sunday, followed by a sudden loud noise, the locals smelled gas. The Titas line was damaged by an excavator working on the elevated expressway causing gas leakage.
The technical team of Titas Gas Company went to the spot around 11pm after receiving the information.
Al Amin, public relations officer of Titas Gas, said that during the work of the elevated expressway, the workers damaged the pipeline. Welding have to be done in about 5-6 places.
He said that gas supply was stopped to avoid accidents. Two valves are closed. It shut off the gas supply to nearby areas including Wireless area.
He also said that about 5 feet of pipeline has been damaged in 8 feet of soil. Pipeline welding will be done by digging and cleaning the soil. Titas hoped to complete the work by noon and be able to supply the gas.
