The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to e-commerce company Evaly's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel in the Digital Security Act case filed at the Badda police station in the capital.
The High Court bench comprising of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam passed the verdict.
On September 30, 2021, Evaly's customer Mohammad Alamgir Hossain filed the case at Badda police station accusing Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasreen and unknown 15 to 20 people as plaintiff.
The complaint states that from January to September 2020, the complainant sent Tk28 lakh through Bkash and cash to purchase electronic products from Evaly. Customers should receive the product from Evaly within 45 days of placing the order. But even after seven months, he did not get it.
Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sub-Inspector (SI) Pradeep Kumar Das, also the investigating officer of the case, filed a charge sheet against the couple in the court on September 16 last year.
Later, on March 2, the court formed a complaint against Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasreen in a case filed under the Digital Security Act. Dhaka Cyber Tribunal judge AKM Zulfikar Hayat gave this order.
On September 16, 2021, RAB raided a flat in Dhaka's Mohammadpur and arrested the couple. Later, they were arrested in cases filed in different police stations on charges of fraud.
