Bangabazar fire originated at Adarsha Market

The massive fire, that gutted thousands of shops in Bangabazar market area, began in a shop in Adarsha Market and rapidly spread to nearby markets. 

The Fire Service and Civil Defence received a call at 6:10 am on Tuesday morning.

They were informed that there was a fire in Adarsha Market. After a few minutes, the fire spread all around the market.

The fire was seen spreading to neighboring buildings as a result of strong winds. Flames could still be observed in various locations, but it is not anything grave.

Businessmen at the site that at least six markets in Bangabazar caught fire. Out of this, only Bangabazar Market has some 2,900 shops and about 150,000 people work there.

At least 48 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence were working to douse the blaze.
