Gulshan blaze: Anwar succumbs to injuries, leaving pregnant wife behind

Anwar Hossain, who was killed in the fire that took place on the seventh floor of a residential building in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Sunday, has a pregnant wife. 

The 30-year-old deceased was identified by his sister and brother at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue early on Monday. 

They said Anwar worked as a cook at the flat of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Fahim Sinha.

Anwar's brother, Julhash, said that Anwar was married, and his wife Amena is currently pregnant at a village in Bhola. 

Gulshan police station Sub-Inspector Bablur Rahman said that Anwar died after jumping off from the building. 

He further said that in view of the written request from the family, the body was handed over without post-mortem.

Fire service managed to save at least 22 people alive from the building; of them, nine were male, 12 were female, and one child.

The deceased along with three others was seriously injured after jumping from the seventh floor of the building in panic. 

The three others are receiving treatment at a hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, two more people have been admitted to a Dhaka hospital due to smoke inhalation from the fire that broke out on the seventh floor of a residential building in Dhaka's Gulshan area.

They were admitted at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 2:30am on Monday. 

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General (DG) Brigadier General Md Main Uddin said a total of 19 firefighting units managed to bring the flames under control after four hours at around 11pm.
