Shama Rahman Sinha, 37, is one of the three critically injured in the fire incident that broke out on the seventh floor of a residential building in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Sunday evening.
Shama is the wife of Fahim Sinha, director of ACME Group, as well as the director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
They were the resident of the 12th floor of that building.
Shama was able to send her family members downstairs in the lift after the fire broke out.
When the lift came back to the 12th floor, Shama got on it but got stuck on the seventh floor due to a power failure.
She somehow got out of the elevator and got onto the balcony of the seventh floor. To escape the rising flames, she jumped into the swimming pool.
She was admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 12:30am on Monday.
Coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) Dr Samanta Lal Sen said Shama has inhalation burns and injuries in different places on her body due to falling from above.
“She is undergoing treatment in the Incentive Care Unit (ICU),” he added.
At least one person was killed and several were seriously injured in the fire after they jumped from the seventh floor of the building in panic.
The fire began at 6:59pm in a 12-storey building in Gulshan-2, Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters' media cell, said.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General (DG) Brigadier General Md Main Uddin said a total of 19 firefighting units managed to bring the flames under control after four hours at around 11pm.
At least 22 people were rescued alive from the building, fire service official said in a briefing. Of them, 9 were male, 12 were female, and one child.
Meanwhile, the Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General (DG) Brigadier General Md Main Uddin formed the five-member investigation committee following the end of the primary rescue operation.
