Gulshan blaze: Fire service struggled to extinguish fire due to lack of water

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to bring the fire in the multi-storied residential building of Gulshan-2 in the capital after four hours.

The fire service officials said that it took them a long time to put out the fire as there was no source of water.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General (DG) Brigadier General Md Main Uddin made the statement in a briefing on Sunday.

He said: “I want to assure that the fire is under complete control. Three people are receiving treatment, and one person died. I am prioritizing on extinguishing the fire.”

Main Uddin said: "There was no source of water. We could not take water from the buildings next to it. That is why it took a long time to put out the fire.”

The fire service DG Main Uddin said 22 people have been rescued alive so far. The cause of the fire will be known after the investigation.

At least one person was killed in the fire that broke out on the seventh floor of a multistorey building in Dhaka's Gulshan Sunday evening.
