A ninth grader student of Siddheshwari Girls School committed suicide by jumping from the roof of a ten-storied building in Mouchak area of Malibagh in the capital on Monday.

The deceased is Farzana Akhtar, 14.

Mostofa Kamal, uncle of the deceased, said that Farzana failed in three subjects and was not allowed to be promoted to the upper class. The last day of admission for next grade was on Monday.

He added: “After talking to the class teacher, Saidul Islam, he said that if she can pass the three subjects in test again, she can be admitted, without this, admission is not possible. Since then, Farzana was depressed. Around noon, Farzana went to the roof of the 10-storied building and jumped.”

After reporting to the police station, the police came and recovered her body.

Mostofa also said that before committing suicide she scrawled a few words on the wall in which she ascribed responsibility for her suicide on the headmaster.

Shajahanpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monir Hossain Mollah said that Farzana failed in three subjects. She could not handle this failure and committed suicide.

In the evening, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shahjahanpur police station Shafiqul Islam said the body has been brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for post-mortem.
