Uttara University has decided to bear the educational expenses of Bithi Akhter, daughter of Gazi Mazharul Islam who died from a scrap shop explosion in Turag on August 6.
A team of Uttara University on Wednesday assured Bithi’s mother that her daughter would receive a four-year honour’s degree in the university’s Department of English free of cost, according to a media statement issued on Wednesday.
The team led by Uttara University Board of Trustees member Abid Aziz conveyed their condolences to the family.
The university authority also decided to cover all related costs during her studies in the university.
Bithi took Tk12,800 taka from her father to get admitted in the English Department of Uttara University.
She received the news of the explosion and rushed to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute immediately.
Her father died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. She spent the money for her father’s treatment and burial. As a result, she couldn’t get admitted to the university.
Subsequently, the university authority came to know the matter and decided to bear the costs of her education.
