A female doctor has been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Friday, with 50% burn injuries.
Aditi Sarkar, 38, was rushed to to the hospital after her husband Manesh Mondal heard her screaming from other room of their house, and saw her body was set on fire.
The incident was reported at around 12:15pm in the capital’s Wari area, Inspector Bacchu Mia of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police outpost told Dhaka Tribune.
Manesh claimed that Aditi had either set herself on fire or her clothes caught fire from flammable chemicals present at their house.
He added Aditi had been physically ill and upset for some time. “I called 999 for an ambulance after we poured water on her to put out the fire.”
Aditi has been working in the Pediatric Department of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital.
“Around 50% of her body was burnt and she is in a critical condition,” Inspector Bacchu said.
