Biman not launching direct flight on Dhaka-Toronto route

National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines will not operate a direct flight on Dhaka-Toronto route considering that it is not commercially viable.

According to sources, the long-awaited flight will be operated with stopover in any of the European or Asian countries for getting extra passengers and refuelling.

Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, managing director and CEO of Biman said: “We are observing the situation. It seems like it would not be viable to run direct flights.”

Abu Saleh mentioned that due to refuelling, the operating cost of the Toronto flight will be reduced and considering the load factor, Biman will be able to carry more passengers on this route.

However, the airlines also decided to reduce airfare to compete with other foreign airlines operating flights on the route.

On Thursday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines claimed that its first flight on a trial basis on the Dhaka-Toronto route was successful and that it is commercially viable.
