Suspended Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das and inspector Liaquat Ali, the death row convicts in the Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case, have been transfarred to Kashimpur central jail in Gazipur.
They were brought to the prison amid tight security around 8:30pm on Wednesday, said Senior Jail Superintendent Gias Uddin.
“They were in the condemned cell of Cox’s Bazar District Jail after the sentencing. Then they were taken to Chittagong Central Jail, before being transferred to the Kashimpur one,” he added.
A Cox's Bazar court pronounced the verdict in the case on January 31, sentencing Pradeep and Liaquat to death.
Besides, the court handed life imprisonment to six suspended policemen and their informants and acquitted seven former cops. A total of 15 people were accused in the case.
On July 31, 2020, police gunned down Sinha on Marine Drive in Cox's Bazar.
On August 5 that year, Sinha's sister filed a murder case with a Cox's Bazar court accusing nine policemen. The court then tasked the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) with the investigation.
On December 13, 2020, RAB submitted a chargesheet against 15 individuals, terming the killing a "premeditated murder".
On 27 June last year, Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail framed charges in the case and the trial in the case started.
