News of the school reopening has stirred the minds of children across the country. One such child, Sahil, was recently admitted to the Play Group of Child Haven School in Dhaka’s Uttara.
After watching children of primary and secondary schools flock back to school following a year-and-a-half-long hiatus on Sunday, Sahil packed his bag and demanded that his mother take him in as well. She tried to explain to him that kindergartens and pre-kindergartens were yet to reopen, but Sahil refused to take no for an answer.
Unable to make her son understand, Sahil’s mother called Monjurul Islam, the school’s principal.

The principal had a long conversation with Sahil, trying to make him understand that he could not go to school just yet. When the child broke down into tears, Monjurul Islam could not deny him any longer.

An overjoyous Sahil trotted to the school while holding his mother’s hand on Sunday. With no friends on the surrounding benches, he browsed through the pages of his books while classes continued online.

Monjurul Islam expressed concern about the social development of children who have been confined to their homes for almost two years. Many children like Sahil were overjoyed to learn of the reopening, and could not understand that the reopening would take place in phases.
“I couldn’t resist when Sahil started crying,” said Monjurul. When he went to see Sahil in class, the child gave his principal a heartfelt thank you.
