Three members of a suspected illegal liquor trading gang were detained in a Department of Narcotics Control raid at a flat in Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Thursday night.
They are Foysal, son of the owner of Kalam Real Estate, and their drivers Ibrahim and Alam.
A Department of Narcotics Control team, led by its Dhaka North Deputy Director Rasheduzzaman, conducted the raid at the flat on the fifth floor of building No 6 on Road No 128 in Gulshan 1, seizing around 300 bottles of foreign liquor in the process.
Assistant Director Mehedi Hasan and some police officials (inspectors) of the agency’s Gulshan and Mohammadpur zone were present during the raid.
The department carried out another raid at the office of Kalam Real Estate on Road No 113 and seized some more bottles of foreign liquor and two cars.

The group used to supply liquor to different areas of the capital from the Gulshan flat while putting on a false front of a real estate business, the anti-drug agency has found.
Rasheduzzaman said a case would be filed against the three men.
“We will be able to know from where they used to collect foreign liquor and for how long after interrogating them,” he said.
They had obtained a licence from the Department of Narcotics Control in 2009 but it was not renewed later, Rasheduzzaman added.
