The Dhaka University student, who filed a case against former DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) vice president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur and five others for abetting rape, is continuing her hunger strike at TSC's Raju Memorial sculpture, despite being severely ill.
She had been hospitalized Friday night after staging a hunger strike for the last eight days, and went back to her strike location in front of Raju Memorial at 12pm Saturday.
The student has been on a fast-unto-death since October 8 night demanding arrest of all six accused in the case.
“She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday around 11pm due to severe illness as well as fever,” Falguni Das Tanni, who has been staying with the rape survivor, told Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
"Later, she was transferred to Dhaka University Medical Centre (DUMC) around 1am Saturday for better accommodation facility. She was totally unconscious at that time," said Tanni, also the joint-secretary of Chhatra League's Ruqayyah hall unit and former assistant general secretary of that hall union.
While talking to Dhaka Tribune, the rape survivor had said she was willing to resume her protest at the base of TSC's Raju Memorial sculpture from Saturday morning even with her ill health.
"It is normal to catch fever in that environment where she is staging demonstration under the hot sun and frequent heavy rainfalls," said DUMC Chief Medical Officer Dr Sarwar Jahan Muttafi.
Earlier, she had fallen ill once and was given saline at the site of her protest.
According to the case statement, the reported rape incident took place on January 3 this year, when the prime accused Hasan Al Mamun, convener of the independent student body, allegedly raped the victim.
The others, accused of abetting the crime, are former DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) vice president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur, Nazmul Hassan Shohag and Md Saiful Islam, joint conveners of Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, Nazmul Huda, vice president of the organization’s DU unit, and Abdullah Hil Baki, a student of the university and an activist of the organization, who spearheaded the quota reforms movement in 2018.
So far, the victim filed four cases with three different police stations and one with Cyber Tribunal related to alleged rape and post-rape harassment.
