Accused in 10 cases, suspected criminal killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

A suspected criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mirpur's Pallabi area of Dhaka.

The incident took place in Eastern Housing area of Pallabi around 2:30am on Friday.

RAB claimed the deceased, Mohsin alias Killer Mohsin, was a close associate of the top terror Shahadat Bahini and also a professional killer.

Mohsin was a listed criminal and had more than 10 cases, including murder, filed against him.

RAB-4 Commanding Officer Mozammel Haque said: “Acting on tip-off, a team went to Eastern Housing area to nab some wanted criminals, who were staying there, around 2:30am.

“Sensing our presence, the criminals opened fire on us. We fired back in self defence,” he added.

Mohsin was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries. He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the RAB official.

“In our primary investigation, we have found that Mohsin was a close associate of Shahadat Bahini and worked a contract killer and extortionist for them,” he added.

A foreign pistol, a magazine, a passport’s photocopy, three bullet shells and more than 1,000 yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

“We recovered a passport's photocopy and suspect that he used to hide in neighboring countries by falsifying identity. He only came to Bangladesh to commit crimes,” said the commanding officer.

“We are still investigating the matter,” he added.
