The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has confirmed that one more person has been infected with coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours.
IEDCR Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora made the disclosure at the daily online press conference from Dhaka’s Mohakhali on Monday.
The newly-infected patient is in her 20's , she added.
In official figures, the Bangladesh government has so far reported 5 deaths and 49 infections from Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus.
The daily online briefing also added that four patients had recovered fully from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number to 19 in the country. 25 patients were currently undergoing medical treatment.
“Of the recovered patients, one was identified as an 80-year-old man, while two others were above the age of 60,” Dr Flora said.
A medical doctor and a nurse were among the recovered patients.
At the same time, 153 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, six more people have been sent into isolation, taking the number to 58 in the country.
Till now, 346 people have been placed in isolation in the country in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Of them, 288 people have been released.
The IEDCR has received a total of 4,725 phone calls in the last 24 hours, of which 3,997 calls were related to Covid-19.
Dr Meerjady Flora warned that people should not think that they are risk free at the moment only because the country reported no new deaths or fresh cases in the previous two days (Saturday and Sunday).
She said: "We came to know that many people stepped out of their homes yesterday [Sunday], which is very risky [for them and others]."
"It is a global crisis. We cannot describe the situation as risk-free as long as we continue our efforts and until the infection rate goes down to zero across the world," she added.
Earlier at the briefing, DGHS Director (MIS) Dr Md Habibur Rahman said 6,200 isolation beds in 64 districts were ready for use. The government has also prepared eight hospitals in the capital for the coronavirus patients.
The director said a total 58,101 persons had so far been placed in quarantine, of whom 57,880 were at home and 221 were in institutional quarantine.
A total of 33,895 persons have completed quarantine and 24,113 are observing their quarantine period. In the last 24 hours, 4428 persons were released from quarantine and 1,804 persons have entered a state of quarantine.
Three hundred and twenty three institutions have been prepared for quarantine measures with a capacity to house as many as 18,923 persons.
A total of 665,296 persons were screened at all entry points to the country, including 230 persons in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 9,52,578 calls were received on the hotline, including IEDCR hotline. In the last 24 hours, 76,660 calls were reported, he added.
On emergency medical supplies and equipment, Dr Habibur Rahman said, 3,25,070 personal protective equipment (PPE) had been supplied to doctors and healthcare givers across the country. 41,930 PPE are in stock while the government expects to collect 1 million PPE for the future.
“We have so far collected 92,000 Covid-19 test kits, and some 20,000 test kits were distributed among different laboratories,” he added.
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has infected 738,453 people and claimed 35,004 lives till 8pm on Monday, according to Worldometer.
Globally, a total of 156,306 infected people have also recovered from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
