Dhaka north City AL contributes medical supplies to NITOR

Dhaka north city unit of Awami League donated 300 personal protective equipment (PPE) and 2000 masks to medical doctors, nurses, and front-line healthcare professionals of the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) on Saturday.

President of the city's north AL unit, Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, and General Secretary SA Mannan Kochi, handed the medical supplies and emergency equipment to NITOR Director, Dr Abdul Goni Mollah, at the hospital premises.

The coronavirus outbreak has placed significant strain on the supply of masks, medicine, and medical equipment in Bangladesh. 

Hospitals and health care providers in the country do not have enough of the medical supplies needed to protect doctors and nurses from the coronavirus. 

Reports say the authorities concerned were not doing enough to replenish medical emergency supplies to avoid shortage of critical gear in treating Covid-19 patients.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed five deaths from Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, which according to worldometer has infected 614,224 people and claimed the lives of 28,240 people till 6pm Saturday. 137,328 infected people have also recovered across the world.
