Bidyanondo making protective gowns for health service providers

Amid growing concern for safety among doctors, nurses and health sector employees on getting infected by coronavirus or Covid-19 due to inadequate protective gears, volunteer organization Bidyanondo Foundation started manufacturing specialized gowns for them.

Once ready, the gowns will be distributed for free, to doctors and nurses who require personal protection equipment (PPE) for working in different hospitals, especially those who are exposed to patients with symptoms of fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, and breathing problems.

Habibur Rahman, a volunteer of the organization, said they are likely to distribute the gowns within the next 10 days.

“Primarily, we have targeted to distribute up to 300 gowns in hospitals across Dhaka city,” he said.

In its official Facebook page, Bidyanondo posted: “We’ve started manufacturing the gowns using the same fabric like the Tk3,000-4,000 priced gowns available in the market.”

The initiative is drawing much attention on social media, with many on their Facebook page commending the organization in this regard.

Tanushri Chaity, a doctor at a Dhaka based private hospital, wrote: “Thank you very much. Please let us know how to order and collect. I need one set for me and 10 more for my colleagues.”

Claiming that they are in a dire need of PPE, Chaity added: “We highly appreciate your dedication.”

Another person named Tarique Albi wrote: “Very good initiative; keep it up. You can also sell them for a price too, and give the money to the people who are associated with this hard labour.”

It is mentionable that the organisation has been distributing hand sanitizers, face masks, and spraying disinfectants in some areas of the capital city, aiming to fight the spread of coronavirus.

They are also counselling people to raise awareness about the deadly consequences of the disease.
