Eight victims of the Keraniganj factory fire, who were admitted at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), have completed their treatment and will soon leave for home.

DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter on Thursday.

He said: “A total of 31 patients were admitted here. Of them, many died, 10 survived and now eight are going back to their homes after treatment."

Death toll in the fire stood at 22 till December 21. Two others are also still under treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn unit.

On December 11, the devastating fire — sparked by a gas cylinder explosion — had gutted the Prime Pet and Plastic Industry factory in Keraniganj’s Chunkutia, killing one worker on the spot and injuring at least 34 others, many with critical burns.

Upon investigation, Fire Service and Civil Defence found the owner had continued to operate the factory while neglecting fire hazard issues, as there had been other fires at this factory in the past several years.
