A freedom fighter has been killed Dhaka's Mirpur area after being hit by a city corporation garbage truck.
The incident occurred in front of Muktijoddha Super Market at 2pm on Tuesday.
The deceased is Abdul Khalek Houlader, 67, from Patuakhali.
Confirming the matter, Shah Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Salauddin Mia said: "Abdul used to work as a betel leaf trader in nearby Mirpur 1 area.
While crossing the road in front of the Muktijoddha Super Market, he was hit hard by a city corporation garbage truck."
The locals initially took him to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation in a critical condition. Later, he was transferred to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The body was kept in the morgue for autopsy, OC Salauddin said.
"We have captured the truck and arrested the driver" he added.
